Superscript&Subscript Text

Superscript&Subscript Text

Once and a while you run into a need to do an off the wall thing in Pro/E such as using Superscript and subscript text in a note. On a Pro Engineer drawing you can fill in parts of a note using parameters from the model such as the thickness of material used (can be any parameter) using text &thickness in a note will take the information from the Model parameter for thickness and insert it in your note, well I recently ran into a situation where the thickness was in a parameter and needed to be called out in a note but had a non-symmetrical Tolerance.

Windows 7 running Pro Engineer

Windows 7 running Pro Engineer

With the release of Microsoft's new beta release of Windows known as 7 at this point we felt obligated here at the Guru headquarters to load up a Quad core machine with both Vista and Windows 7, and fire up a seat of Pro/E to see the results. Our first run at Pro/E on Vista was Horrible and a total failure; this newer hardware and Vista SP1 runs Pro E just fine, as a matter of fact it seems to run as well as XP does and has a little softer/fancier look to it.

Sketcher References

In both Wildfire 3 and Wildfire 4 you can use a config option for different ways to select sketcher references; 0,1,2 you can select it how many references Pro/E sketcher will automatically select

sketcher_auto_create_refs

set it to either 0,1, or 2

Save As Tip

One quick tip that you can set in your config file to speed up the save as process, when ever you create a part, do the drawing to go along with it (named the same always) and if you place RENAME_DRAWINGS_WITH_OBJECT to BOTH in your config.pro setup file now when you do a save as of the original part you will also get a new drawing to boot, and in a later tip we will go over doing this same thing in an assembly and end up with a whole group of Parts and Drawings for "Free".

Wildfire Sketcher Palette

Starting with Wildfire 3 PTC added a Sketcher Palette; it includes many shapes such as Polygons of all sorts, Stars with up to 20 points; and some other shapes, but along with this we can customize the palette and ad our own shapes along with our very own tab, and here is how:

to add a Tab to the Sketcher Palette simply browse to:

loadpoint>\text\sketcher_palette

Pro/E Wildcard Searching

When opening a File within Pro Engineer it sometimes is cumbersome to wade through hundreds and sometimes thousands of files to find the one you are looking for, well we have a speed secret for you; Pro/E allows the use of "Wildcards" in the file browser. When looking for a file you can put an asterisk before some of the characters of the file name or after or either; pretty much the same as normal wildcard searching works.

Give it a shot and you will see what we mean, this goes back to the old DOS days of using Wild Cards *
